General Upgrading Considerations
Using a Laptop Computer to Upgrade
Laptopcomputersgenerallyhavedifferentdefaultpowerpropertiesthandesktop
computers.Incorrectpoweroptionscanadverselyaffectdeviceupgrading,
becausetheconnectionbetweenthelaptopandthedevicemustbemaintainedin
ordertocompletetheupgradesuccessfully.Ifthelaptop’sharddiskshutsdown
orthelaptopenterssystemstandby
mode,thisconnectionisbrokenandthe
upgradeproceduremustberestarted.
Ifyouareupgradingameterusingalaptopcomputer,followtheseguidelines:
Plugthelaptopcomputerintoawalloutlet.Donotrunthelaptoponitsbattery.
Configurethe harddiskssothattheydonotshutdownafteracertainperiodof
time(i.e.setto“never”).
Turnoffpowersuspension(e.g.systemstand‐by)andhibernateop ti on s.
Disableop tio n s thatpowerdownthelaptopwhenitisclosed.Thispreventsa
shutdownifthelaptopisaccidentallyclosed.
Disablethescreensaver;screensav erscanburdentheCPU.
Upgrading Devices via a ModemGate Connection
ThemaximumacceptablebaudrateforupgradingviaModemGateis56.6kps.
EnsurethatthebaudrateontheModemGatecommunicationsportandthebaud
rateonthemetertobeupgradedaresettothisorlower.
Meter I/O Module Behavior
ThestateofyourmeterʹsI/Omodulesmaychangeduringanupgrade.Theywill
reverttoprevioussettingsoncetheupgradeiscomplete.
